How to Remove Mangal Dosha?
Mangalik or Bhauma Dosha
Mangal Dosha is formed in the birth chart depending on the position of Mars.
Mars is the planet responsible for this dosha.
What is the nature of Mars?
What is Mangal Dosha?
How does it influence a person’s life?
And what are the ways to remove it?
These questions naturally arise in the mind.
The True Nature of Mars
After the Sun and Moon, the planet that exerts the strongest influence on Earth is Mars.
In astrology and the Puranas, Mars is the Commander of the Devas.
In Western astrology too, he is considered the god of war.
How was Mars created?
According to the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Lord Narayana was once residing alone in the region of Malaya Mountain. The place was solitary and filled with exquisite natural beauty, which pleased the Lord.
Seeing the divine beauty of Lord Narayana, Mother Earth (Prithvi Devi) felt an intense desire.
Taking the form of a beautiful youthful woman, she appeared smiling on the Lord’s bed and united with Him.
But unable to withstand the blazing divine energy of Narayana, she lost consciousness.
The Form of Mars
According to astrology, Mars is described as:
- Commander of the gods
- Fierce-looking
- Red-eyed
- Strong-bodied
- Reddish complexion
- Restless nature
- Long curly hair
- Pitta (fiery) constitution
- Associated with fire element
- Represents fire, heat, and summer season

What is Mangalik or Bhauma Dosha?
The concept of Bhauma Dosha is not modern;
Ancient scriptures mention it as harmful for husband and wife.
This dosha has many names—
Angaraka Dosha, Kujadosha, Bhaumavarti Dosha, Mangal Dosha, etc.
But today the most common name is Mangalik.
If Mars is positioned in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house in the birth chart,
Mangal Dosha is formed.
Some modern astrologers believe that Bhauma Dosha is extremely inauspicious—
causing poverty, blocking progress at every step,
and preventing success despite hard work.
People generally fear Mangalik boys/girls greatly.
Especially if the girl is Mangalik, families panic—
“What if the marriage is unhappy?”
“What if the husband/wife dies early?”
These fears often arise.
However, many people do not become widowed even with Bhauma Dosha.
Mangal Dosha in Astrology
In Jataka Chandrika, composed by the great poet Kalidasa,
the placement of Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house
has been described as producing Bhauma Dosha.
This judgment is not only from the ascendant (Lagna),
but also from Moon and Venus—
Mars placed in these same six houses from Moon or Venus also produces Mangal Dosha.
The Inner Meaning of Mangal Dosha
Although the planet is named Mangal (“auspicious”),
its effects are often not auspicious.
Wherever Mars is placed in the birth chart,
it damages the good results of that house
and brings continuous obstacles.
Even an exalted Mars may give adverse results
because Mars is extremely hot and dry.
Due to its closeness to the Sun and its reddish color,
Mars has a harsh, fiery, and aggressive nature.
Mars expresses itself in two ways:
- Heroic nature (Veer Bhava)
- Animalistic nature (Pashu Bhava)
Heroic qualities of Mars include:
- Truthfulness and discipline
- Immense working power
- Patience and courage
- Self-control
- Bravery and quick action
- Independent thinking
- Ambition and self-establishment
- Vitality
- Organizational ability
- Sharp intellect
- Strong physique
- Military skill
- Scientific and mechanical aptitude
- Sharp logic
- Brotherhood
- Enthusiasm and motivation
Role of Mars in Marriage
Mars plays a crucial role in marriage.
Marriage itself happens under Mars’s influence;
otherwise the result may be opposite.
Mars determines:
- longevity of husband and wife
- peace or conflict in married life
- widowhood or separation
- and in women, menstrual cycles (in combination with the Moon)
which directly affects fertility.
Results of Mangal Dosha in Different Houses
The houses affected by Mangal Dosha are very sensitive for married life:
- 1st house (Lagna): overall life direction, personality, and nature
- 2nd house: family relations, in-laws
- 4th house: home and happiness
- 7th house: spouse and marriage
- 8th house: spouse’s lifespan
- 12th house: bed comforts and marital intimacy
